SECOA is one of the leading construction companies providing stage rigging to the performing arts industry. As a manufacturer of our own equipment, we are able to provide a competitively priced, quality guaranteed, on time delivered product every day.
Compare us to other companies in the industry and you will not find another company with the breadth of offerings, the depth of knowledge, or the responsiveness of SECOA. Our ability to provide quick delivery of rigging hardware, custom portable stages and lighting equipment sets us apart from the competition.
In 75 years we have developed the reputation of always providing what the customer expects (and maybe a little bit more), charging a fair price for our products/services, and treating all individuals, customers, suppliers, and employees, with the utmost respect without regard to their technical expertise, experience, physical location or volume of business.
From our Mission Statement, you will read that SECOA "endeavors to safely complete all projects in a spirit of cooperation, teamwork, and mutual respect". These are not idle words. They are a way of life at SECOA.
History of Secoa
SECOA was founded in 1923 by the late W. Raymond Taylor and his wife, Bertie. Raymond and Bertie sewed stage curtains in their living room in Greensboro, NC through the late 1920’s under the name Stage Decoration and Supply. The company began the manufacturing of stage rigging hardware under the trade name of SECOA (Stage Equipment Company Of America) in 1955. The Taylor’s son Bill took over the company in the late 1950’s.
In 1971 Jim Kunz founded the J.T. Kunz Corporation in Syracuse, New York. It was originally organized to install and/or erect stage rigging hardware. In 1972, the company relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota using it’s new name of Theatrical Rigging Systems that was eventually shortened to TRS, Inc.
By 1975, TRS Inc. was also fabricating steel products for use on its many rigging installations that it had under contract. In 1981, TRS bought Stage Decoration and took over the name SECOA. In 1982, the hardware manufacturing was moved to Minnesota and the Greensboro plant was converted into an 8,000 sq. ft. sewing facility. Later that year, SECOA started manufacturing orchestra shells, staging, and other specialty products.
Today SECOA is headquartered in Champlin, Minnesota. We have an 82,000 square foot building that houses our state-of-the-art CAD Engineering and Design Department, Sales and Management Offices, and our Manufacturing Facility.
